Cliff Bleszinski Equates Betas to, Erm, "Making Love"
Casual Love, Like in the Backseat of a Datsun

In an interview with Gamepro, Cliff Bleszinski, who’s always good for a quote, explained why Gears of War 2 doesn’t, and will not, have a beta or demo. The game comes out later this week, so it’s obviously too late to get a full demo or beta out now, but there could have been one a few weeks ago I suppose. But what’s his excuse? The ever profound Clifford had the following to say:
Why no demo or beta for Gears 2?
A beta is like hooking up with a girl just to say, "yeah, I f*cked her." I know that sounds crude, but it's the honest-to-God truth. Once you play a beta, you can check it off your list -- you can say, "yeah, I played it." Then you might not feel motivated to get that initial cherry popping from the proper, final game.
Honestly, we could make a demo, but Gears of War 2 wouldn't be out until February of 2009 [if we did]. That stuff takes times to put together.
Granted, we may need to tweak a few things in multiplayer after release through an update. People are going to find exploits we didn't anticipate. That's the reality of making a game -- look at MMOs. We're prepared for that, but we think we're shipping a pretty great game out of the box here.
That quote makes me so happy. Not because I agree, since an extremely well made demo can sell copies. The analogy doesn’t really make much sense either, as equating gaming to sex in this manner is fairly ridiculous. The reason the quote makes me so happy, ecstatic, even, is for those exact reasons. It makes no sense, and I love when pseudo-celebrities say things completely preposterous. Peter Molyneux and Bobby Kotick better watch out, Bleszinski is frothing at the mouth, ready to shout out inappropriate quotes faster than you can say "locust batter."

a good demo could def. increase sales so i dont agree with him either and those issues at launch can a lot of times be solved through a beta so that your release does not have as many issues.
Funny stuff though
A demo can also make gamers hold off for a little. Like if i have a demo of a game i might get. Ill wait and jsut play the demo for a price drop or something. Something like that. But Gears 2 Has Game of the year written all over it. It's hard to say something can top the first one. I Can't wait till friday
for 60 bucks i am paying for a game, give me a demo. let me see if its worth me dropping 60 right away
