D.J. Caruso Confirmed as Dead Space Movie Director

They're Making a Dead Space Movie?

by Coop

I know we promised to stop covering stories from Variety after they posted blatant lies on several occasions (Google buying Valve comes to mind), but this one is too interesting to ignore. Reports are that D.J. Caruso, director of Disturbia, Eagle Eye, and the upcoming film adaptation of Y: The Last Man, will be taking on directing duties for EA's Dead Space movie. Of all of the properties EA is trying to get put on the big screen, this is likely the best. Well, next to The Sims.

I hadn't heard much about a Dead Space movie in the past, though it would make for a great film. Variety says that EA will produce the film with Temple Hill partners Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey (producers of Twilight and a few other recent hits). On the bright side, while Caruso isn't the ideal director for the Dead Space movie, what with his lack of experience in horror and his undying love for Shia Labeouf, he isn't Paul W.S. Anderson or Uwe Boll. EA seems to be taking this franchise seriously despite less-than-stellar sales, something that makes me extremely happy.

Who is writing it? What direction will they take it? Who will it follow? None of this is decided yet. EA is still shopping around for a screenwriter and focus for the movie. If you're reading this... I'm available. I have two words: Romantic Comedy.

Anything, including lunch boxes, machine guns, and pregnancy tests, with the Dead Space brand name, will be worth anyone's time.

I liked the Dead Space movie better when it was still called Event Horizon.

well, i guess all they have to do is follow the plot of the game... which would be cool, but would also sort of suck since many people already know how it went down.

You know what? I haven't touched this game in a while. I think my save file is still from Chapter One of the game. I think I'm going to pick it back up some time in the near future and go through it in its entirety. Oh, another thing, the kid from such quality films as Transformers 1 & 2, Eagle Eye, and the recent Indiana Jones flick (which sucked hardcore suckage) will most likely be the most accurate person to play the lead... as already presented in this Photoshop image.
