Dante's Inferno Super Bowl Spot Revealed
It's Not Warm When She's Away
by Coop
Well, here it is, the Dante's Inferno commercial that will air during the 4th quarter of the Super Bowl. I promise we'll shut up about it after tonight. Well, until there's the inevitable follow-up, when some crazy Christian group gets angry about something, or a parent sends a strongly worded e-mail to someone. Ah, who are we kidding, it's Dante's Inferno all day, all night. Have a seat, folks, it'll be over soon.
As for the trailer, which is sort of the point of all this, I can see people both loving and hating it. What do you think? Is it "great for gaming" like I said earlier? Or is it, as many will likely think, does it show EA "having raped the Divine Comedy so"?
It's very, very obviously going after the Gears of War vibe, and while I like the trailer, I'm not sure I dig the song. It's not even that I don't like the mood; it's just that it feels forced. Then again, nothing says hellfire like Bill Withers. Err, sorry, I said that wrong; Bill god damn Withers.
That said, the CG is pretty awesome, and I'm sure this video will sell enough copies to justify the two million dollars EA is spending on this ad. Well, hopefully, or else it might be a few years before we see another big budget Super Bowl spot, and I can get used to seeing games join the ranks of the Budweiser frogs. Oh, how they make me laugh, and laugh, and laugh. We're a classy country.

And I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, Hey, I ought to leave the young thing alone, But ain't no sunshine when she's gone......
eh... not that great.
I actually thought the song was perfect for a super bowl ad. It will make people thing it's something all happy...then it's all "Hell Awaits" and shit.
I thought the song went pretty well actually. I replayed it again because of it!
It's O.K, EA better Pray this thing sells to justify the 2 Million and the cost of development because it's being release on the same day of Bioshock 2 which is one of this years highly anticipated games and not to mention Dante's Inferno Plays like God of War which will be coming out in a month and another highly anticipated game if not the biggest this year. So, you got 2 big Tripple-A-tiles against a new IP, so if this does not sell that is a shit load of money down the drain.
I have to say, that song doesn't seem to fit at all. Further, if I wasn't already sold on this game, I can't see how this commercial would sway me in the direction of buying it. It's fully underwhelming.
Meh...I feel nothing towards the ad, so I'm guessing it failed for some of the audience. Although I'm pretty confident that the song is ok for a super bowl ad.
