Darwinia + Cleared for XBLA Release

Release Date+ Coming Soon

by Coop

A few months back, we reviewed Multiwinia, the multiplayer expansion to Darwinia. It wasn't a flawless game, but it was a fairly entertaining experience nevertheless, with enough charm and style to earn it a spot on any gamer's digital shelf. Now, after a long wait, it seems as though a console release is just around the bend, as Introvision has confirmed with CVG that the game has been cleared for release with Microsoft, and that an actual release date will be nailed down soon. Apparently, it might be out within the next few months, which is good news for anyone excited by this wonderful RTS.

On their website, a posting from September has the developer talking about the huge amount of work they've put into Darwinia+, the bundle of the two games. In it, one of the developers of the title talks about how much the game has improved:

"Darwinia+ on the Xbox is the best version of Darwinia we’ve ever made – the Directors Cut, the game as it would have been the first time around if only we’d had another two years to spend on it and were able to realise every single ambition we had for the project."

It has received a major overhaul visually, cleaning everything up so that it can stand toe-to-toe with some of the major XBLA downloadable titles. That's not to say they're abandoning the charm, but it's obvious that some things need to be improved when the stakes are much higher, and the audience is much more focused. We'll be sure to keep a close eye on this, and report on that "nailed down" date as soon as it is available.
