de Blob Sequel in the Works
Game's Sales Confirm More Blob
by Coop

THQ's de Blob ended up being one of the best Wii games of 2008. Its gameplay was like a mix of Jet Grind Radio and Mario Sunshine's, and stood out in the overwhelming avalanche of shovelware that found itself flooding the system. Thankfully, according to IGN, de Blob's journey isn't over, and the little lump of paint will likely come back for a sequel.
Not only was the title well received critically, but it apparently was successful in the the seemingly impossible task of beating a first-party Nintendo title, and sold 80,000 more than Wario Land: Shake It!, which was released on the same day. At 230,000 copies sold through December, THQ should feel pretty good about de Blob's sales, and according to a representative from the company, they do.
"We're pleased with de Blob's performance worldwide. It's a great intellectual property and you can tell your readers to expect to see more of de Blob in the future."
This is great news for the Wii and Nintendo fans. While de Blob is far from an indie game, it certainly didn't have a twenty million dollar budget, and goes to show that a good idea can beat out Nintendo's re-releases and ports. Hopefully this is the start of something good, and a Zack and Wiki sequel is in the system's future. Maybe? Please?
