Dragon Quest IX Gets American Release Date

Remember, Remember the 20th of November

by Coop

Squareenix has announced via jeux-france that Dragon Quest IX: Protectors of the Starry Sky, the DS exclusive sequel to the insanely popular Dragon Quest series, is due out in America on November 20, 2008. The last game in the series, Dragon Quest VIII, sold nearly 5 million copies worldwide and was well received by both critics and gamers. Two years ago at E3 the world was shocked when Squareenix took the stage to confirm the newest title’s handheld jump, with the inclusion of action-based combat and online multiplayer.

As long as the developers don’t expect me to scream into the microphone to activate my Phyche Up abilities I think I am fine with the translation over to the handheld, even with the rumored changes to the combat system and less-than-stellar reviews over on the Japanese coast. I loved Dragon Quest VIII; it was one of the few JRPGs recently that pulled me in and had me hooked. I'm not sure if it was the combat, the story, or the game's amazing sense of humor (Succubus tells a joke! Yangus doesn't get it...). Rest assured I will be in line, day one, for the newest slime-killing adventure.
