Sega has released a trailer for Empire: Total War, featuring the series' first foray into Naval combat. This is the first gameplay shown for the game, and makes me kick myself for walking by the Total War booth in Sega’s E3 section. Sorry, I figured it was going to be a rehash! I didn’t know! It’s going to be PC only (most likely), and is currently slated for a 2009 release.

I can’t decide how much of the footage I believe. Part of me thinks that the more impressive sections are just camera flourishes, and it is all in game, part of me thinks we’re being lied to, and this is just an estimate of “what it might look like.” PC developers seem to stray away from that bullshit, instead making their games look good instead of spending an unnecessary amount of time applying filters to their footage or creating fakes, and the Total War series has always had impressive visuals. I’m not 100% on either side, but I am excited for playing this game whenever it ends up coming out.
