Everquest Movie Has a Writer

This is Madness!

by Coop

There are two paths of video game movies: 1. They suck. 2. They never come out. So far it seems the Everquest movie has looked like it was going to take the second path. News of the adaptation has been scarce for years and seeing as, on the whole, no one actually plays Everquest anymore, the question of "who cares?" has to be asked. But now it seems to be moving forward and a writer has been chosen. Michael Gordon, screenwriter for 300, has been chosen to write the Everquest movie. The man who was able to take a comic book and rewrite it word for word into a movie script can now sort through hundreds of thousands of pages of chat logs that I am sure will be used as source material. SPARTANS! TONIGHT WE DINE IN ATLANTIS! Honestly - I am willing to bet this never materializes but it is worth noting that in an office building somewhere in America there is a board room full of old men pretending it is 1999 and making decisions about a movie based on Everquest. Below is the official quote from Aint it Cool News. After a second read it looks like Sony is the production company handling it. I take back all doubts that I have expressed about this film coming out. Sony loves to pretend it is still 1999 - look at all of their recent press releases.
EVERQUEST: The Movie moves forward! Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a bit of news for you MMO/RPG fans. I’ve never fallen into stuff like WORLD OF WARCRAFT of SIMS or stuff like that. I’m a simple gamer and those worlds seem too huge for me. Looks like IGN broke the story and now the trades are picking it up, but EVERQUEST is going into production at Sony, with Marvel’s Avi Arad producing. They’ve just hired 300 screenwriter Michael Gordon to adapt the game. Good news? Bad? You tell me.
