The PlayStationgeddon is upon us, as pictured above. Early adopters of Sony's PlayStation 3 have found that their PlayStation 3 was dead - deceased - kaput. When trying to load any game it would go to the screen above and stop, sticking there. There's no noise, no bang, no whimper, it just sits eerily, proving T. S. Eliot wrong and giving ammunition to Microsoft and Nintendo fans eager to insult the system.

Wait, this all feels strikingly familiar...

There are also reports on corrupted Trophies, reset clocks, and a slew of other issues. We're still waiting for more information, but it appears to be only effecting the PlayStation 3 phat, as Slims seem to be playing Heavy Rain and MAG swimmingly. In fact, reports are that it's even happening to systems not connected to the internet, so don't bother smacking the Ethernet cord out of the back of your system just yet.

Sony has said that they're looking into the problem, and it's likely linked to a leap year issue with the internal clock. It's not the same problem that caused Microsoft's Zune to go bonkers last year, but it's a similar programming error. That means that there's a chance it will fix itself, but that also means we may have to go a day without playing any games on the PlayStation 3.
