Far Cry 2 PS3, 360 Bound

Somehow…

by Coop

One of the most anticipated PC games of next year is now heading to the PS3 and Xbox 360. Far Cry 2, the sequel to the amazing shooter that spawned several dozen half-assed expansions for every system and its brother, will release on all platforms late in 2008.

But…how? Far Cry 2 is based on the Cry2Engine, the same as Crysis. Watching videos of the game made it obvious why this was going to be a PC only title, just take a look:

Far Cry 2 takes place in Africa and is completely open ended. With 50 square kilometers to roam around in and an open world to explore it really does look like a huge leap for FPS. It looks insane, and I have no idea how either the PS3 or the Xbox 360 can handle it. If they can, though, I look forward to the results. Here is the full press release:

London, United Kingdom – 3rd January, 2008 – Today, Ubisoft announced that Far Cry® 2 is being developed for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system. Far Cry 2 is a next-generation first-person shooter being created by Ubisoft’s Montreal development studio.

More than just a visual and technological achievement, Far Cry 2 immerses players in an entirely new kind of gaming experience, featuring a custom-made video game engine built from the ground up. Players will discover a true open world gameplay set in one of the most beautiful environments in the world, Africa, brought to life by high-definition next-gen technology. Far Cry 2 is scheduled to ship fiscal 2008–2009.

This is almost tempting enough to make me get a 360 or PS3... almost.
