Final Fantasy XIII Won't See Stateside Release Until 2010
Who. Saw. This. Coming.

If you're one easily startled by unbelievably obvious news you might want to take a seat - as far as predictable announcements goes, this is the big one. Square-Enix has confirmed that... drum roll please... Final Fantasy XIII won't see a 2009 release date in North America.
I'm sorry.
That's right, the team creating the title expects to hit a winter 2009 date for Japan and ship to American gamers early in 2010 at the earliest. They actually say that April is the soonest date us filthy Americans might hope to see it, but it might be later - IF THEY FEEL LIKE IT. I hope Microsoft jumps in and offers a boatload of cash to speed this up for an American release, because I don't see them sitting idly while gamers import the game on the PS3 to get a first look at the current generation's first Final Fantasy. Maybe it's just really, really wishful thinking. Hell, I'm shocked that it might come out in 2009, seeing as Square-Enix hasn't even released a scrap of gameplay footage. Everyone knows Square finishes the cut scenes first, well before even considering how the game is going to play. It's the "Kojima" approach, surely you've heard of it.
Now go buy Valkyria Chronicles, fools. Odds are half of the people crying about this never played it, and it is likely as good of a game as FFXIII will be. It's your fault the system's best titles aren't selling - yours.

OMGWTF??!?!?!?!!?!
Told ya so.
So wait... now I have to wait until 2010 to not buy this? NOOOOOO!!!!
Ummm.....sorry to tell ya but that has been announced since mid 2008, because it was schedule to release late 2009 and they pushed it back another year. Due to the new software they're using to run on each gaming system, namely the PS3. So this is no new news.
Also, SquareEnix will present gameplay footage at TGS 2011.
This is actually the first time it's been officially confirmed, Square Enix has gone back and forth and teased and hinted, and most of us assumed that we wouldn't see this in North America in 2009--but now it's really, really official.
So wait Coop, you want Microsoft to pay for them to push it forward, after they paid for them to hold back the PS3 release till the 360 release was ready in America?? What do you think Microsoft is rich or something?
Also, agreed on Valkyria--if you're a PS3 owner waiting for this you should most definitely be playing that. And it needs the sales way more than this game will.
i'm so glad i'm not a fan...else i'd be crying i suppose
ALSO, not to totally clog up the comments here, but as the resident Final Fantasy junkie at Gamervision I guess it's my job. I was just remembering how they started rolling out the FFXIII hype train a few months BEFORE Final Fantasy XII was released--meaning the PS3 wasn't even out yet. And I was thinking, "Jesus, what, already?! Way too soon! Push it back, Square Enix, give me some time to play XII and get a PS3 at least."
Seems kind of funny, now.
Well I guess no more procrastinating about Valkyria Chronicles anymore. Damn you, SquareEnix, damn you to "H-E-double hockey sticks!"
At least we're getting White Knight Chronicles this year.
WKC will make everyone forget about SE as it will OWN!!!
also Valkyria Chronicles should be played by everyone with a PS3.
