Firmware Updates Bring PS3 to 2.50, PSP to 5.00

PSP Breaks Free from Oppressive PS3

by Coop

The PlayStation Blog has been updated with information about the newest PSP and PS3 updates. The PlayStation Portable update has many of the features leaked before, as seen in the picture above. This should make downloading games much easier, instead of needing to bring it over from the PS3 or PC store. The PSP is now free from its shackles.

The PlayStation 3 update isn’t as significant, but has plenty of cool features to look forward to. The largest is support for the official Bluetooth headset, which looks like the main reason to pick up a copy of Socom this week. There are also a number of graphical and interface enhancements to the friends list and trophies, giving the PS3 a better overall feeling, which is always a good thing. The ability to take screenshots was also added to help prove your gaming achievements to friends.

The full details can be found on the PlayStation blog, and will go live later in the week, likely on Thursday. Hopefully these go live without a hitch, unlike the last few large PS3 updates. Be sure to check back on Friday to see if it’s safe to download it, or if your PS3 will red-ring from the effort.
