First Details of Dark Knight Game Emerge
Gotham Deserves a Better Class of Videogame

The first details on the Dark Knight Game have finally emerged, giving a little more shape to the mysterious title. It will be an open world game, allowing players to explore Gotham as Batman using the Batmobile, grappling hook, and gliding abilities granted to him by his cape. The game will feature more of a focus on random crimes than past superhero titles, and takes place after the events of the film. Setting the game after the movie is a smart move for a number of reasons: it doesn’t have to follow the events of the movie closely, which is usually the hardest part for developers to handle, it has an opportunity to create it’s own unique storyline involving Gotham Police chasing Batman around the city, and it even gives Pandemic a perfectly good excuse for the game’s unbelievably untimely release.
Not only that, but rumors are that Heath Ledger already did voice over work for the game, so if EA plays their cards right and makes sure the game ends up being as good as the film they can market it as Heath Ledger's true final performance.
This all sounds awesome, why isn’t the game out? Well, apparently the combat is awful and the camera is flat out broken. These are both things that can be easily fixed by competent developers, and I don’t understand why Pandemic can’t get their shit together. Throw in a counter based combat system like Assassin’s Creed and hire someone who can put a camera system together. It’s not like they are doing things that haven’t been done before, Grand Theft Auto IV’s camera was flawless, just copy and paste that crap. Come on guys, don’t screw this up.

it seems like poor planning not to have the game released within a few weeks of the movie's opening. on the other hand, maybe they're aiming to have the game out to support a holiday DVD release of the movie.
Mayhaps so, Makyo, mayhaps so.
Yeah, there have been so many good examples of near-perfect sandbox games in the last year or so that there is just no excuse for developers who get it wrong.
Lock it up guys.....
