All right, you win, stupid Activision. I was all ready to completely write off the Guitar Hero series as irrelevant and old fashioned, throwing my faith behind the rock gods at Harmonix to deliver a semi-yearly stream of musical goodness to my consoles. Now Activision has gone and screwed up my plans and released a trailer for Guitar Hero IV, or as it is now called, Guitar Hero World Tour (not to be confused with the DS version, On Tour - this is all very confusing, I know). The video doesn’t show any gameplay, but confirms the Lenny Kravitz song, “Are You Gonna Go My Way” as a playable track and shows the drums in action. Also semi-confirmed is a 4 on 4 “Battle of the Bands” mode that I hope will allow for online battles between full groups. All of this information, mixed with the early confirmed “Create-a-Song” mode, definitely show that Activision is prepared to bring it where it needs to be brung this fall.

Calling it World Tour makes me wonder if it will actually be the next installment of the Guitar Hero series, or of they are considering it a spin-off like Rocks the 80’s. Adding vocals and drums is very un-guitarlike, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they said it was a separate series altogether and released Guitar Hero IV a little down the line as the next part in that series. They have the money, why not splinter their dying baby into niches?
