First Halo: Reach Trailer Light on Details, Heavy on Armor

Fight a Losing Battle

Spike TV's VGAs promised a Halo: Reach trailer, and boy howdy, it did not disappoint. Near the end of the show, Tricia Helfer walked out and introduced a first look, and the video is posted above. It doesn't show any gameplay details, for those you'll need to read Halo: The Fall of Reach, which inspired the game. Instead, it showed the cast of characters, a motley crew that seems right at home in the Halo universe, filled with butch guys sharpening blades and butch chicks wearing way too much armor.

The story of Reach is a losing battle, so we all know how it's going to end. What matters, in this case, is how we get there. The game's graphics look improved over Halo 3: ODST's, with better particle effects and textures. It does appear to be a new engine, as Bungie said they were using, but I'm not exactly how new it is. Don't be shocked if they come out and say it's a huge modification on the last engine, since we're not looking at a drastic improvement, just... a nice improvement.

So, what do you think? I'm sure it'll be split down the lines, with Halo fans looking for new pants and haters continuing the hate train. I'm optimistic, and I hope Bungie is ready to make fans happy, yet again. With six members of the Halo: Reach squad, we can pray for massive online cooperative battles, let's say if they'll obliged us.
