PopCap Games, the overlords of all things casual gaming, apparently look to increase their hardcore credibility ever so slightly with Plants vs. Zombies, a tower defense game. Instead of defending against warring nations it turns its attention towards the classic literary struggle between botany and the living dead.

The trailer above shows off the game's sense of humor and gives a taste of gameplay, both of which look incredibly awesome. Recently, the publisher has said that beyond PC they'd love to expand the title, and I'd be shocked if this game doesn't find itself on the Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, and even the iPhone. Hell, Peggle finally made the leap, why not Plants vs. Zombies?
