First StarCraft 2 Episode Will Allow Players to Control Protoss
Once Kerrigan Goes Protoss, She'll...

If you haven't been following the drama that is StarCraft 2, you should know that, well, there has been drama. It was announced a while back that the singleplayer campaign, which was originally thought to include story arcs following the game's three races (Protoss, Terran, and Zerg), would actually be cut up into multiple releases. The first would be called Wings of Liberty, focusing on the Terrans, while allowing play of all of the races in multiplayer. The community was outraged, and promises that each arc would be lengthy did little to quash the concerns ignited by the developer's selfish strange move. Now, on the game's official forum, it has been revealed that, while the campaign will focus completely on the Terrans, players will be allowed to control Protoss units, if even for a fleeting moment.
"I won't go into details, since we don't give out information on the campaign of StarCraft 2, but I can confirm that there will be a Protoss mini-campaign that lets you control Protoss units. This part of the campaign mode is of course way shorter than the Terran part, but it is very fun to have a very different playstyle to add even more variety to the game. I am sure every Protoss fan will love this part of the Campaign."
What does this mean? Educated guess would be that the Terrans form an alliance with some Protoss, which means the player will be able to have direct control over, at least, some units. They could be rebel Protoss or it could, in fact, mean that there will be a full fledged treaty, which will immediately be broken the moment the first expansion is released. Odds are it's there, in part, to give players a little taste of what they can expect in the coming months, as Blizzard prepares the other episodes for release.
Well, months might be too kind. Currently, we have absolutely no idea when the game will launch, since it missed its 2009 start date by at least a few months. After confirmation from developers that it would have a lengthy beta which, too, has not begun, it would appear we're going to be waiting for a little bit longer before StarCraft begins at all, be it Terrans or Protoss. We'll keep you posted.
