Game of the Year Nominations

Coop's Choices

by Coop

This year was the best year for video games in the history of the medium. Never before has there been a year when there were so many amazing titles released and it appears that the idea of the "video game" has finally been fully realized. While there is still room to improve, because there always is, some games that have come out in 2007 will forever be remembered as classics and timeless portrayals of this generation.

Because of that it was ridiculously hard to pick games to be my personal nominations for Game of the Year and even harder to choose only five, but after hours of going through the dozens of amazing games I was able to choose five and put them in the order I believe they should be in for Gamervision's Game of the Year 2007.

5. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

From the mediocre ashes of Call of Duty 3 came one of the best shooters of 2007. Its single player campaign is as action packed as the biggest Hollywood movies and as full of suspense as any drama. It also marks one of the only times a game actually pulled off changing playable characters without making me want to shove a fork into my television. Its multiplayer is also fantastic and expansive with a huge amount of depth and replayability. Call of Duty 4 is easily the best in its series and as far as action packed shooters goes it may be on top of the heap. Click here for Chris's full review.

4. Mass Effect

While it has some problems that go hand in hand with the Bioware logo on the box, Mass Effect has amazing gameplay (once you figure it out) and an unbelievably good story. The characters are great, and while the voice acting may not be the absolute best it is definitely the most impressive due to the players control over it. I stand by my statement that Mass Effect is the best science fiction game of all time, and I believe its sequels may make it the best trilogy in any medium. Click here for my full review.

3. The Orange Box

This may be my number three pick for Game of the Year, but it is easily my number one for best gaming deal of all time. I agree with what Joe said earlier (not counting Half-Life 2 and Episode One) to explain why this game isn't first place, but it is still up there. Team-Fortress 2 is the best multiplayer game of the year and Portal is one of the most innovative titles to ever be released. If you don't own the Orange Box buy it today, it is well worth every penny. Click here for my full review.

2. BioShock

Surprised to see this at number two? This was an extremely hard choice for me, mainly because I did give it a higher score than the number one game. BioShock has the best atmosphere and level design of most of the games I have played and the most engrossing story of any title this year. While not as epic as Mass Effect's plot, BioShock's was a more personal game for me and the experience is not one I will soon forget. Now, would you kindly click here for my full review.

1. Super Mario Galaxy

Super Mario Galaxy is my Game of the Year for 2007. Some levels may be on the slow side (Bee Suit and Boo Suit levels specifically) and the controls and camera can be wonky at times, but Super Mario Galaxy is one of the finest games ever made. It is hands down the best platformer of all time and completely tears apart and redesigns the genre as a whole. The last few levels are some of the finest I have ever played, proving Nintendo's point about the Wii: gameplay over graphics. Well, Nintendo, you did it. Thank you. Click here for my full review.

Runners Up (in no particular order): Assassin's Creed, Rock Band, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Halo 3.

man i loved call of duty 4 while it lasted, the 3 or so hours i got to play it. i have it for pc but when ever i tried to load it, i've already uninstalled/reinstalled/uninstalled it, it would give me a directx error. ugh.

I have yet to play CoD4. I guess that's one of many games I'll try once I'm out of none to play.
