Because there wasn't enough Gears of War 3 news yet, it has been announced that a new face has joined the staff of Epic, working on Epic's upcoming sequel as a writer. Karen Traviss, author of Aspho Fields, Jacinto's Remnant, and the upcoming Gears of War: Anvil Gate will be lending her literary talent to the games this time around, marking the first time her pen will come down on the actual core series. In the past, her Gears books have received positive reviews from fans of the series, giving some hope that the third game will include some additional, necessary storytelling. Not that grunts or explosions don't lend themselves to a good narrative, or anything, just that the series is rapidly approaching a massive climax, and it will be good to have some additional hands on deck for when it all goes down.
Beyond working on Gears, Karen created a six-book science fiction series called The Wess'har Wars, as well as being responsible for a number of Star Wars novels. On her personal website, Karen said that she's been writing the third game for some time now.
So... if you saw Cliff Bleszinski on the Fallon show, you now know what's been keeping me extra-busy these last few months. I've been writing the third game in the Gears of War series, out in April 2011.
I've also signed up with a new publisher — Simon & Schuster — to write more Gears of War novels after Anvil Gate. More news on my blog...
This news is a doubly as interesting for fans of the books. Not only is the acclaimed author coming to Gears, but she's writing two more Gears books as well. We've reached out to Karen for more information, and will be sure to follow every Gears 3 morsel for the next 12 months. It's going to be a wild ride.
