GTA: Chinatown Wars Screens Confirm DS Game of the Year
It’s Everything We Hoped For!

The first screenshots of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars have been leaked to the internet, giving a first look into the mature-rated Nintendo DS title slated for a 2008 release. The graphics are admirable, fully 3D and cell-shaded, with a top-down view to minimize the need for a strong graphical engine. It looks like an updated version of the original titles, which isn't a bad thing, and I can't imagine it looking any better with the DS's hardware.
The “tasteful” touch screen controls are shown, from hotwiring a car to what looks like giving someone a tattoo, but all in all I think they will add to the game. I was excited when I heard there was going to be more to stealing a car in GTA IV than simply hitting a button, but there really wasn’t, which was disappointing. Here are some more images:
More images can be found here, where these originate from. If this game plays as good as it looks I think it’s easy to call it the Nintendo DS Game of the Year. A full GTA experience on handhelds is hard to pull off, but these pictures are awesome, and I’m ready to take the murderous experience on the road – how about you?

If I could explain how much time I spent playing and re-renting the old top down GTAs, it would explain why after all the good titles released on the DS, this one might actually make me buy one. However, my mind is blown at these pretty screens. So just take my word for it.

The mini-games look sweet, I'm excited to hot wire a car. Cut scenes look nice as well.
