Guitar Hero Adds Drums and a Microphone?

Best Buy Leaks Details

by Coop

Yeah, I'm re-using this image. Deal with it.

The Guitar Hero expansion idea is one that hasn’t been universally accepted. The growth of downloadable content and lukewarm reception of Guitar Hero Rocks the 80s saw to that. To justify plunking down another fifty dollars for thirty songs without being able to pick and choose isn’t really worth it, especially when nothing more is added to the formula. When Activision revealed Guitar Hero Aerosmith last week the question on the tongues of most gamers was “Why not just release this as downloadable content?” Best Buy has the answer on their website.

Features:

  • Challenges you to perform the music of the legendary Aerosmith
  • Features well-known favorites such as Sweet Emotion, Dream On, Love in an Elevator and Don't Want to Miss a Thing
  • See if you can drum like Joey Kramer, play guitar like Joe Perry and Brad Whitford, play bass like Tom Hamilton and sing like Steven Tyler
  • Improve your in-game career by performing in the same venues as Aerosmith once did
  • See how you compare to a band that's sold more than 150 million albums

Wait, wait, see if you can drum like Joey Kramer? Sing like Steven Tyler? Hold on a second, this sounds like being in some sort of a Rock Band…

If this information is true, and odds are Best Buy isn’t making this stuff up, that means that the Guitar Hero franchise is going back on their words of keeping their series guitar centric and are, well, moving forward. If this is the case, why even keep the name Guitar Hero? It is also interesting that this “expansion” will have more new gameplay then the last sequel in the series if this news turns out to be true.

We will keep you posted on this as more is announced/confirmed/declined/revoked.

It really wouldn't be guitar hero anymore if there is more than a guitar.
