Guitar Hero Drums Shown, Rockin’
For As Much As I’d Like to Bash Em

Guitar Hero III may have beaten Rock Band in sales, but the ripple effect of Harmonix's band power was enough to make Activision rethink its stance on instruments in its franchise. Next month's Game Informer has some images of the rumored drum kit for GHIV, which is set to release this winter. The image is below for said controller, and for as much as I’d like to make fun of Activision for giving in to the pressure and adding extra instruments I have to say the drums look awesome.

They decided not to blatantly copy Rock Band and I can respect that, with the cymbal pads floating over the rest of the buttons to give it a more authentic look/feel. At first it may seem like a strange choice, but makes complete sense when compared to an actual drum kit. I actually anticipate Harmonix modifying their drums to more resemble something like the image above for a Rock Band 2, if these end up working as well as I'd hope.
I went into this idea a complete pessimist, but that single picture has turned me around completely. With many people considering the Guitar Hero franchise a building block for Rock Band and nothing more, Activision has a lot ground to recapture in the coming months. Telling people they can use their Guitar Hero II/III guitars and play a Rock Band experience in GHIV might be enough, and as time goes on we will soon know who will really win this battle of the bands.

It really wouldn't cost too much more for a company to make a drum set that at all resembles a drum set. Ya know snare in between the legs, hi hat off to the side (able to switch floor tom and hi-hat for righties or lefties). I'd rather save up for some a Roland V kit.
