Hellgate London to Return in UK, US

It's Alive!

by Coop

Hellgate: London is dead. Dead. D-e-a-d. The game didn't sell well, most who played it didn't enjoy it, and the reviews were too low for a pay-to-play FPS to survive. Because of this, the game died, and Korean company HanbitSoft picked up the rights to keep the servers online in Korea. Now, several months after the dust has settled, they've picked up the rights to bring back the game globally, and have announced that Hellgate: London's servers will be turned back on in the US and UK. Long live Hellgate: London!

"We would like to thank Namco Bandai Games America for allowing us to acquire the Hellgate publishing rights and are thrilled to have eager gamers worldwide return and enjoy the franchise," said Kee-Young Kim, CEO of HanbitSoft. The game, which will apparently go by the name of Hellgate: Resurrection (shudder), marks the first time in recent memory that an MMO has been turned off, only to have its service (legally) brought back. Usually it takes an active fan community to do this, but seeing as Hellgate really didn't have one, it's good to see the new owners step up. Who knows? Maybe they've made some changes and created something worth caring about.

Now to get Calling all Cars brought back online, right? Ha, just kidding, people care even less about that.

Let's hear it for a game that only about 100,000 people in the states play (at max)! Hurray!
