Hendrix DLC Won’t Make Wii Guitar Hero
Because of Some False Sense of Honor
by Coop

Activision has revealed that the Jimmy Hendrix DLC for Guitar Hero: World Tour will not make it to the Wii version of the game. Apparently, it has to do with Nintendo’s rule about not allowing for duplicate products on the Wii Shop Channel, which was just barely built to be a functioning storefront for weekly content. This shouldn’t be an issue, since it could still be released as solo tracks, right? Wrong – apparently Jimmy didn’t allow it. A clause in his will, apparently. Here’s a comment from an Activision representative:
“…certain artists prefer to keep the integrity of the track pack rather than releasing singles and the Wii’s infrastructure only allows us the ability to release single songs as DLC.”
According to sources, the deceased artist Jimmy Hendrix made public his anger with the trend of downloadable content in videogames, stating that he would never allow for his musical tracks to be split into individual downloads. Sorry, in actuality, he never said that, because odds are, Jimmy Hendrix wouldn’t care less about this issue.
Playing it off as “integrity” instead of “greed on the part of the licensers” is sickening. If they are trying to play a game of chicken with Nintendo, hoping that the Wii Shop channel will change its rules for some downloadable content, they are sadly mistaken – especially since Wii owners don't care as much about this sort of thing. If they did, they would probably have purchased a system with more than 500MB of storage.
