House of the Dead: Overkill Trailer Eats Brains

Style Meets...Well, Style...

by Coop

The new trailer for House of the Dead: Overkill is heavy on style and light on gameplay, which is usually a bad sign. In this case, however, the style makes up for the lack of substance and the outcome is something right out of the 70’s. The gameplay they do show is very stereotypically House of the Dead, so don’t expect to see a revamp of the incredibly stale formula, but hopefully the full game has as much going for it as this trailer. I’d love it if they took after the movie Grindhouse, with flickers over the screen and other 1970’s B-Movie effects. Levels should end with the film reel burning up and the paused game screen could act like a series of missing film. There are plenty of cool ideas that are unexplored, and if the don’t plan on innovating the gameplay they might as well work on the style.

Oh and there’s even a girl licking a Nintendo Wii remote in the trailer, so, you know, there’s that.
