Interview: Fallout 3 - The Pitt

We Talk to Pete Hines About the Wester Side of PA

by Coop

We had a chance to talk to Pete Hines, VP or Marketing and PR at Bethesda about the upcoming DLC for Fallout 3 as well as future prospects. Well, we talked about the future, he kind of gave us a smile and wouldn't budge. Here's the interview:

How will players access the Pitt?

You meet up with an slave who escaped The Pitt, named Werhner, who tells you about the Pitt and what’s going on there. He claims the leader of The Pitt has discovered a cure for mutation and wants your help in getting it, and freeing the slaves. As the story goes along it’s up to you to decide what to believe and who you want to side with. He helps you get to The Pitt (via a rail car that you activate) and from there it’s up to you to get into The Pitt, posing as a Slave, and see what you can find out.

Did anyone travel to Pittsburgh to get a feel for the area?

Several developers on the team are from there, so they had a chance to really help define and direct what the city might look like.

Are there any plans to add vehicles of any kind to Fallout 3?

Nope, no plans to add drivable vehicles.

How long will PS3 owners have to wait before they can get Anchorage through Broken Steel? Or will there be a patch to bump up the level cap (and game ending) for the system?

The DLC is for 360 and PC only, that hasn’t changed. Raising the level cap and game ending are changes that are part of Broken Steel because it tells the story of what happened next after the events of the main quest. Those aren’t changes we’d make to the original game without that DLC.

What are the plans for DLC past Broken Steel?

We aren’t talking about any of our future projects at this time.

When can we expect to hear more about the “Unannounced MMO” that Bethesda recently was hiring for?

That’s actually not us, but a sister company of ours, called ZeniMax Online Studios. You can see what they’re up to at www.zenimaxonline.com. They haven’t announced what they are up to yet, nor when they plan to start talking about it.

We would like to thank Pete Hines, and remind everyone to check back for news on The Pitt as its release approaches.

    So how is Broken Steel going to work if you . . . well . . . you know . . .

FINISHED THE GAME IN IT'S INTENDED FASHION?

I'd hate to create a new Vault dweller from scratch.

    Nah'mean?
