Killzone 2 Delay Managerial, Not Developmental

Overcrowded Holiday Delays Sony’s Holiday

by Coop

Our friends over at the PlayStation Blog are always good for some new information, usually to either get our hopes up or dash our dreams. This week one of the writers was asked a question about the Killzone 2 delay, wherein the title was pushed back from its original date of December, 1998, to February 2009. The general consciences is, as is with any delay of a major title, that the game had some problems that needed to be fixed before it was ready for mass market consumption. This isn’t the case when it comes to Killzone 2, and Guerilla Games just wants to let us sweat.

“Just wanted to add a quick reply on the “delay” of Killzone 2 to Feb 2009. To be clear, there is nothing wrong or causing a delay to the development of the title. We (SECA) had to look at the fall calendar with SOCOM, LittleBigPlanet, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, Resistance 2, plus some PSN titles and make a decision where each game should come out. Killzone 2 was moved to Feb 2009 to make sure we didn’t have three shooters in the marketplace competing for retail dollars during the same holiday season. The game will be great and it will be out in Feb 2009 in both Europe and North America.

Hope this helps - alot of times we gamers read delay and think something is wrong, in this case, it was a pure management decision.”

Crowded market? Really? I will be sure to remind myself of the overcrowded PS3 market this winter when I am not playing one of the largest titles never released on the system. I’ll write “Too Many Games For Killzone 2” in the dust on my PlayStation 3. I’ll pop out the original Killzone, spin it on my finger, and put it back in, hoping it is the sequel. Get my drift? They have a few titles coming out, like LittleBigPlanet and Resistance: Fall of Man 2, but Killzone has always been the icing on the PS3’s cake, and that cake is sure getting smelly left untended all of this time. This also doesn't really show confidence from Sony to their game if it can't compete with a sock puppet simulation. We will see what happens in Novem--erm, February.

At least they were smart enough to release it before God of War 3 drops in March. Though there was a ton of games that came out this past year, and everyone pretty much found time to play them all. This smells like weak sauce.
