Sony has announced that the PlayStation 3 exclusive Killzone 2 has sold over 1 million copies worldwide. This not only makes it one of the fastest selling games on the console, but "the biggest initial success at retail of any first-party PS3 title to date." I'm sure some glasses are clinking together in a boardroom somewhere. There’s likely champagne, too, and maybe an ice sculpture of a Hellghast.

This news should ring well for developers looking to create exclusives on the system, which has had a stigma of underperforming, albeit popular titles. LittleBigPlanet didn't sell as well as some would have hoped early on, and Valkyria Chronicles still has only shipped twelve copies to date (kidding), so this proves that a title can really perform on Sony's system. It looks like the haters and naysayers have been proven wrong, and Sony has not only one of the better reviewed games of the generation with Killzone 2, but will likely have one of the best selling titles as well. While it still doesn’t hold a candle to Gears of War, Halo, or Super Smash Bros.’s sales, one million copies in a matter of weeks is still an achievement (or, rather, a trophy), and they have plenty of reason to celebrate it.
