Name: Knights of the Old Republic Campaign Guide
Publisher: Wizards of the Coast
System: D20
If the failed MMORPG Star Wars Galaxies taught us anything, it is that SW fans want to play as Jedis. Sadly, this doesn’t really have a place in most games, either on the table or on the screen. Jedi are simply too powerful, and a group of them together goes against the things we all love so much about the original trilogy. Luckily, BioWare’s Knights of the Old Republic showed the world of game developers how to handle that issue, and brought a new era to the world of Star Wars, one where the dark side of the force was existent, but small, and the Mandalorian horde is slowly spreading like a virus throughout the system. I haven’t had a chance to play in a full-fledged Star Wars RPG campaign, but was excited to hear that one of the most interesting times in Star Wars history was getting its own book, and I was even more excited once I received my copy and began to thumb through the pages. Here's a short list of the features:
- 10 new playable alien races.
- 21 new feats.
- 3 new prestige classes, plus updates to old classes.
- 10 new Jedi powers, and two new Jedi talent trees.
- 15 new droid types.
- Dozens of characters, from Sith assassins to noble Jedi advisors.
- More than 20 new starships.
The first noticeable aspect of the book is, obviously, the art. There are different styles, raging from semi-realistic to animated, and the different illustrations help bring the characters to life. One specific image shows a dark force user, manipulating several purple light sabers to float around here. It looks brilliant, and instantly evoked creativity on the part of the players, daring them to think of something as spectacular.
The new races and classes are, of course, a welcome addition to any campaign setting. There are also new prestige classes and feats, as well as a slew of new content in terms of items and vehicles. The main aspect of the book that roped me in, however, is the lore. Chapters devoted the Sith, Jedi, Mandalorians, and The Republic itself are worth a read for not only fans of the Star Wars RPG, but fans of Star Wars in general, and the book is filled with interesting information about the different events that helped shape the universe leading up to the films, even though this takes place some 4,000 years before them.
Knights of the Old Republic Campaign Guide is a wonderful book, worthy of game tables and bookshelves alike. The pages are pouring with great art and even better content, and there is no reason not to pick this up if you have players interested in playing a campaign set in the time period. There is so much to do in the several thousand years that fall into the timeframe of the Republic that it would be hard not to think of campaigns (though if you need help, you can always click here), and this book is a great aid in that.

I am completely confused at what this is. Is this finally the good news of the third KoTOR release or is this a book about the old republic, Or is this a pen and paper game book?
