League of Legends Will Be Free

Following Battlefield Heroes and Free Realms

by Coop

Back at E3 we really enjoyed playing Riot Games' League of Legends: Clash of Fates. It played a lot like Defense of the Ancients, but with a level of user-friendliness that DotA couldn't hope to reach. Even so, the game falls into a niche market, and felt like it needed something to really fire itself into the mainstream. They found it.

League of Legends: Clash of Fates will be free.

Taking after EA's Battlefield Heroes and Sony Online's Free Realms, the game will be available to everyone for no money at all, following a microtransaction system for additional content. So far, all that's been confirmed is that the purchasable content will focus on the Summoner system meta game, allowing players to add diversity to their individual characters.

This is a fantastic move on their part, and I'm extremely excited to where it takes them. It's risky, that's for sure, but with risk might come great success. Riot has teased more news for later in the week, so we'll be anxiously awaiting hearing more in the near future.

Well that seems like a good price. Although I can't figure out how they'll drop it any lower if people aren't downloading it.

Yes, that's good news. No reason not to play this now.
