I can’t say I’m really surprised by this, but it’s interesting nevertheless. World of Warcraft player “Nymh,” who plays on the European server Drek'Thar, became the first character to hit the new level cap in World of Warcraft: The Wrath of the Lich King. Only one day after launch, this Warlock was able to grind enough experience to forgo what will take most gamers months to complete.

Odds are it was actually a group effort, with dozens of guildmates allowing Nymh to tag mobs with AOE attacks while they finished the job, and the character was likely played by several characters within the time span, but still…really? One day? Is that the best use of any of their time?

I’ve been very addicted to MMORPGs in the past, spending literally days on end with Star Wars Galaxies and City of Heroes... and Lord of the Rings: Online, Warhammer, Dungeons and Dragons: Online, and World of Warcraft, but never to the extent shown by many hardcore WoW players. Is there something I’m missing about the game that I should (or, more likely, shouldn’t) know about? Has the game gotten that much better since I quit, or are people just attaching themselves to it because it’s comfortable and simple? Do they give out money for being addicted now? If so, I might resub...
