MAG Box Art Revealed, Beta Statistics Dropped

Minimalism? Whosawhatnow?

by Coop

While we're talking about the recently revealed MAG box art, you might say to me, "Coop, this box art is crazy! It's so busy, there must be a dozen different things going on at once!" Sure, at first glance, it does appear to be overwhelming, but seriously think about it for a moment. This game features 256 players fighting at once online. This box only has 20 soldiers (if you count the person holding the gun in first-person), which isn't even 1/10 of what we'll be seeing in-game. That's actually pretty conservative, hats off to them for that.

Now, you're going to say, "Wow, Coop, how insightful! Could you provide me with some statistics from the Official PlayStation Blog about the MAG beta?"

To which I will reply, yes.

  • More than 42,000 matches were played over the course of the full public beta (August 17 – December 5).
  • During October’s beta period alone nearly 534,000+ miles were traveled in-game by MAG players each week.
  • During the final month of the Beta 4 and 4.5 periods (November 9 – December 5):
    • Of the more than 65,000 players that logged on, 17,000 of them qualified for Squad Leader, 3500 people qualified for Platoon Leader, 1100 folks made it all the way to OIC, and 206 dedicated warriors made it all the way to the level 60 experience cap.
    • Nearly 18 million kills were made and an excess of 700 million shots were fired.
  • The Top 3 most played maps all belonged to the Sabotage mode. They were, in order, Syr Darya Uplink, Darien Network, and Copper Hills Relay.

I don't know about you, but to me, it sounds like people enjoyed themselves. In fact, maybe a little too much, 700 bullets should mean much more than 18 million kills. Seriously, that's pathetic, guys, you can do better than that.

MAG is due out this January for the PlayStation 3. I'd say something like "see you online," but with 256 people in a game at once I'll likely never see a single person I know.

I think that this box art might be the first ever still image to induce seizures.
