After months of speculation, IGN has posted the official release date for Mercenaries 2, which has been bouncing around in delay-land since it was bumped from a Fall 2007 release date to “Mumblemumble '08” release. Apparently everyone’s favorite world-burning simulation game is due out on August 31st, so mark your calendars and set aside a few days for explosions and mohawks.

While I have said in the past that I am ready to write this game off due to the delays, I still have a lingering hope of success of Mercenaries 2. The original was fantastic, and brought exactly what it advertised: a playground of destruction. If the sequel brings that same experience to the next generation, you can count me in for plenty of gameplay. Let's get the next deck of 52!
