New Duke Nukem Forever Footage Looks All Right
Ya Know, For a Cancelled Game and All
by Coop
Some new footage of Duke Nukem Forever has popped up on the internet as part of one of the now unemployed developer's portfolios. It shows off much more of the game than has been revealed in the past ten years, giving a little insight into what the gameplay would have been like, had the game actually ever been released.
Interestingly enough, it actually looks pretty good. The graphics are far from Killzone 2's, but the game has a somewhat polished look to it, and it doesn't appear that the visuals were to be the game's falling. It looks like 3D Realms was trying to bring the old-school action of the last Duke Nukem games back to life, with over-the-top battles around every bend. Now, after seeing this footage, I'm even more upset that the game will likely never see the light of day, because this generation needs someone to remind it that it shouldn't take itself so seriously.
Anyone else like where the game seemed to be heading?

I have to be fully honest. This video is like the prom date. She's a hot chick that has become the village bicycle that doesn't need to be brought home to mom and dad. I don't know. Over ten years and that's all that we have? Gotta get on the ball with this one!
I think it would be awesome if the powers that had been at 3D Realms came out and say, "Here's all the stuff from Duke Nukem Forever... have at it!" and let the internet community finish the game. That would be a fitting tribute to Duke.
An EGO meter?
Looked interesting, but 10 years for this little footage?
Duke sure does have to dust his shiny self off quite a bit.
Ten years makes a guy really shiny.
You gotta imagine that over the course of those 10+ years there was more than one occasion where they said, "alright, the technology is so much farther advanced than when we started, we need to start over. New engine, new physics, new everything."
So working on one game for 10 years is really more like cultivating an idea and rebooting it a few times. This is obviously not 10 year old footage, this is 1 year old footage. I'd be interested in seeing stuff from the very first build to see how far they came....
