It takes all my strength not to use the George Foreman PS3 picture with every PS3 article...
Let the failed promises, lies, and backpedaling begin! Sony of Europe has announced that they will be releasing a 40 gig version of the Playstation 3 for what equates to 399 USD.
This seems to be the best move Sony can make this generation. Well, it may seem like it. With Sony there is always a catch and this is a mighty one they should put up on their wall and exaggerate to relatives about: it will have zero backwards comparability.
Lets think back to 2006. The Sony Playstation 3 was just a little disappointing sparkle in the eyes of Sony and they had all the promises in the world to make. That is when Phil Harrison stated: “Backwards compatibility, as you know from PlayStation One and PlayStation 2, is a core value of what we believe we should offer. And access to the library of content people have created, bought for themselves, and accumulated over the years is necessary to create a format. PlayStation is a format meaning that it transcends many devices -- PSOne, PS2 and now PS3."
This new SKU is also now rumored for America with a supposed release date early November. This unit will also have two USB ports, four less then the 60 gig unit. This wouldn’t be an issue if not for the blue tooth problems companies are having with the system. Both
Rock Band and
Guitar Hero III will need to use little connections (called “dongles”) for their connection.
Not done with me yet!
So what is the deal? Will Sony say “shove it” to anyone who requires their system to use USB connections and consumers who want backwards compatibility? A new PS2 goes for about $100 dollars so there is no way that it costs them that much to shove some extra hardware into their system to make it play old games.

im dissapointed sony. Your letting us down!!!
I think there may be more to having backwards compatibility than just sticking a ps2 motherboard in there, and any way to cut monetary corners without affecting the ability to play ... PS3 games ... is to be expected.
I kinda feel like if people are not willing to shell out the big bucks for the higher level system, then they should be able to accept the lack of backwards compatibility. If they can't, sucks to be them.
I just want to throw one more thing in here. The HD DVD for XBOX 360 drive sells for $180 and the 360 itself is $350, so that's $530 total for the two. PS3 has the Blue-ray capabilities built in.
Suck it up, you're not really getting shafted that bad ... complainers. =]
Not that i think you're complaining coop, you're just informing. People just have a tendency to whimper and whine.
