Next Call of Duty Set in Vietnam?

Rumor: Players to Assume Role of a Fortunate Son

by Coop

ThatVideoGameBlog is reporting that they have reason to believe that Call of Duty 7 (which, I suppose, is the game to come after Modern Warfare 2) will take place in Vietnam, or at least in that era. Apparently sources are saying they have been licensing music from that time for the game, as well as Cuban and Russian tunes. Then again, if World at War counts as Call of Duty 5, Modern Warfare 2 counts as Call of Duty 6, that means Call of Duty 7 will be developed by Treyarch, so who cares anyway?

This is technically a rumor, so don't expect an official statement anytime soon. Actually, odds are nothing will be confirmed until after Modern Warfare 2 is out, so it will likely be some time before anything comes from this story. What does everyone think about this? I don't think any game has done justice to the Vietnam war's unique aspects (confusion, guerilla warfare, tunnels), so I'm interested in seeing how it looks.

Battlefield: Vietnam handled the war perfectly, and any game made in its wake will only disappoint me.

If this is true (I hope it is) I'll have to have my dad take a look to see if it's legit.

Here's an interesting question. Can you make a game about a war as politically charged and controversial as Vietnam and have it NOT make any statements one way or the other?

    Would you want it to?
