Nintendo Pulls Wii Ads in UK
Says it is the “Responsible” Thing to Do
by Coop

After this generation of gaming is over I think we can all agree to officially replace the saying “Selling like hotcakes” to “Selling like Wiis.” Or… “Selling like Wii-cakes,” - whatever. Either way, with the Wii outselling the PS3 and Xbox 360 at a stupid rate and being completely unavailable everywhere in the world Nintendo doesn’t need to advertise.
Apparently they have realized this as well. "We have been running the campaign all year round, but we want to take a responsible stance this Christmas and not fuel demand," one Nintendo representative said. Nintendo of Europe has stated that Nintendo will pull their Wii advertisements and replace them with the Nintendo DS, which while selling like the aforementioned cake as well is more available for purchase. Swapping the advertisements to the DS makes sense from a business standpoint as well. With the release of the PSP Slim, sales have been picking up for Sony. Any holiday leads they can take will act as storage fat for the sales spike Sony will get when Crisis Core comes out.
Usually companies try to ride any wave they can catch the wake of, it is nice to see a company do the “responsible” thing and switch out the ads. If the Holiday season has an unattainable amount of fans wanting Wiis, that could carry over to next year with or without the Wii Want to Play commercials. I just hope this carries over to the states, as any Gamestop employee can attest to being yelled at for needing to keep Wii boxes on display.

"What do you mean you don't have any Wiis?! Look at all those boxes you got!... What do you mean, it's advertising for Nintendo? I want to speak to your manager!"
oh god, i hate that. From both the customers point of view and the employee.

Only in the UK? What about the US? What about Australia? What about the entire rest of the world?
