Walking into a Gamestop or Best Buy and looking for a WaveBird Controller may not yield the best results anymore, and according to GoNintendo Nintendo has said they have stopped shipping them to retailers.
This wouldn’t be worth mentioning if Super Smash Brothers: Brawl wasn’t going to support GameCube controllers. Many fans of the series have eagerly awaited the sequel and being able to used the tried and true GameCube Controller is a blessing for many. While this option is still available, not being able to jump into the store and pick up a new WaveBird is depressing. The controller was the first successful Wireless Controller, with a fantastic battery life and insane range.
I haven’t heard of any plans to offer the WaveBird Wireless Controllers in stores again (I did some checking, and we are still shipping the original Nintendo GameCube Controllers to stores). If you’re unable to find the original Nintendo GameCube Controller locally, you can still order this item from us. - Nintendo customer service rep
Super Smash Brothers: Brawl comes out next month, and if you are one of the many gamers who anticipates wanting to use a Wireless GameCube Controller you might want to start searching now – they aren’t going to be any easier to get.
