No In-Game Ads for Starcraft 2
Bobby Kotick Had Foot in Mouth Disease
by Coop
Bobby Kotick is on his way to becoming my favorite gaming executive in the industry. First, he says that it would take $1,000,000,000 to dethrone World of Warcraft, which was quickly debunked as fear mongering. Then he says that Starcraft II would be a great game to feature in-game advertising, leading masses of Starcraft Fanboys to zerg-rush his house and tear it apart, brick by brick.
It turns out he was wrong. Starcraft’s community manager, who I'm sure will soon be explaining delay after delay after delay, was quick to quell gamer’s worries and issued the following statement,“[Starcraft II] can actually be the model for in-game advertising and sponsorship and tournament play and ladder play for the future."
“We have no plans to have in-game advertising in StarCraft II. We believe Bobby was actually referring to Battle.net, which has always included ads.”
Thank god this has been debunked, I would hate to see in-game ads in this title when it releases in 2025. By the way, when is it appropriate to make a delay joke for Starcraft 2?
ALWAYS APPROPRIATE.
