PAX 08: Ghostbusters Lanyard Explained
Who Ya Gonna Call!
by Coop
One of the more confusing aspects of the Penny-Arcade Expo occurred when we received our name badges. No, not that Timmy's name tag read iFrisch (true story). See, at conventions, every single thing is sponsored from the lanyard that your nametag is on to the bathroom mirrors at some times. At PAX the lanyards all had the Ghostbusters logo, advertising the upcoming game. However, the game was nowhere to be found, and PAX started a day after Gamestop officially took Ghostbusters out of their computers. What the heck?
Apparently this deal was signed in January and the lanyards shipped out months ago, Robert Khoo, Penny-Arcade PR god, explained to Variety. This was long before Activision decided to take one of the most anticipated games of 2008 and “reevaluate” the cost of pressing disks. You know, DVDs are mad expensive. This reminds me of CES last year, where the entire show was covered with advertisements with HD DVD. This was during the funeral march of the format, and Toshiba was canceling press conferences left and right. The world is an awkward, awkward place.

ugh, this seems so embarrassing. the lanyards *would* have been a great marketing ploy, since everybody was wearing them all weekend, and instead it just made people angrier that the game will never see the light of day.
The best laid plans of corporate America
At least we now have the Ghostbusters movie reboot by the writers of The Office to look forward to. Or not.
I would pay obscene amounts of money (if I had any) to play this game. Just publish the damn thing Activision... you're not making any friends this way.
they had lanyards back then, jess?
