PAX East 2010: DS2's Isaac Will Have New Outfits and Access to Original Armor

Who Are You Wearing?

During a Dead Space panel at this year's PAX East (the same one where they showed off a few seconds of fantastic footage), executive producer Steve Papoutsis touched on the subject of armor. In the original, Isaac Clarke wore his engineering outfit, which could only protect from enemy attacks so much. At the time, it made sense, since he was on an engineering job, not a military assault. Throughout the game, the player could upgrade it a bit, but it always looked like small changes to the same outfit since, again, he wasn't prepared for the Necromorph threat. This time around, things will be different.

Beyond wearing a new suit with a number of enhancements, there will be other outfits that look extremely unique in Dead Space 2. After someone walked out in a full, physical version of the outfit, complete with glowing lights and a bad-ass gun, Papoutsis quickly explained that this was just one of many. He was sure to point out that the upgrades wouldn't be pallet swaps, meaning there should be a number of different ways to look snazzy while strategically dismembering enemies. And if that's not good enough, there's another option.

"For those of you who want to rock it old school," he said, "That's available too."

I think I'll take the new one, since it sort of looks like it was built from pieces of GLaDOS.

I like the new look, it's really pimped out.

If I can sound like everyone else on the nets: I'm starting to worry that they're moving too far from horror to action.
