PAX on the East Coast in 2010

And this is Just the Beginning

by Coop

Last year’s Penny-Arcade Expo was my first gaming convention and, as you might know, Gamervision’s first as well. It was a great time, but the fact that it is in Seattle, Washington keeps it from being an event that I would be able to bring friends and family to. Not that there is anything wrong with the city, but it is a few thousand miles away from my home in Pennsylvania (see: too far). In two years, however, things will be different. Here is a quote from Tycho from an article posted today on their website:

People sometimes call PAX "The New E3," but that never sat right. It's better to say that PAX is everything E3 isn't. We made it the opposite on purpose - public instead of private, fun instead of work. It's about people who make and play games, instead of the games themselves. This is all pretty obvious in retrospect, but for some reason no-one else had done it. It deserves to be on the East Coast. Frankly, it should be global. I'm working on it.

That’s right, 2010 will see the Penny-Arcade Expo expanding to the East coast. This doesn’t mean a change of location, but a second show entirely, hoping to succeed where others have failed in bringing a real gaming convention to this side of the country. Tycho promises that this is just the beginning, and they are working on bringing the convention to a global scale. I wouldn’t hold my breath about seeing PAX Norway: 2012, but the guys at PA seem dead set on taking advantage of the slimming of E3 in every way they can. They will be working with the people who put together a little show called the New York ComiCon – it’s obvious that they mean business.

Gamervision will be at this year’s PAX, so expect to hear more on this in the coming weeks.

I don't think it matters too much where on the east coast it is. I'm going to make it there no matter what!
