Persona 5 Gearing Up for an August PS3 Release?

Rumor: Call Megami Surprised!

by Coop

During E3, we tried our best to get Atlus to confirm the next Persona for us. They wouldn't, but they did mention that if it was in development, it would likely not be for the PlayStation 2. Sure, that's sort of like saying God of War 4 won't be on the PS2, but it was still something, and we clung to that half-a-story like it was the best thing we had ever heard. In Japan today, at a press conference announcing a Shin Megami Tensei pachinko machine, Atlus confirmed that Persona 5 would come out for the PlayStation 3, and will be advertised alongside the pachinko machine. The most interesting part? Rumors are that it might be out in Japan as soon as August. We're going to go ahead and call it a rumor or, at least, a translation error. Persona 5 is undoubtedly in development, but I can't believe it will be out in August. Sure, it would still take Atlus a few months to get the game translated for the American audiences, but I still think there would be more time to promote the game before a release. August is so... so... soon.

We've reached out to Atlus for a comment, and will eagerly anticipate their enthusiastic "We don't comment on speculation or rumors" reply.

Really excited to see where they can take this series on a the current gen consoles. I really want to see them step it up, though, not just a graphical update.

I really want to get excited, but I find it hard to believe that the game is coming out in August in Japan and this is the first we're hearing about it. In fact, that's some terrible marketing, springing the next game in a hit RPG series on audiences like that.

@Raccoonacorn: I don't know what I would want them to change about the series, though. The last two games were damn near perfect, with only last-gen graphics holding them back.

i really think the only thing they need to change is a nice step up in graphics. The rest of the game was flawless

I think America needs to get on-board the pachinko bandwagon.

The gameplay was great and all, but I think they need to find a way to make it more...immersive. A little more variation in your interactions. For instance, don't have someone stand in the EXACT same spot every day - have them walk around in a certain area or perform an activity somewhere. Also, give NPC's some extra dialogue so I am not hearing them say the same thing day after day.

They don't need to make huge changes to actual gameplay, but breath some life into the world and make it feel less static. That, I think, takes the series to a whole new level.
