Phillies' Cole Hamels Cuts PSA for Infinity Ward
UPDATED: Oh Boy...
by Coop
UPDATED: They've pulled the video from Youtube thanks to the controversy. You know, the one where Cole Hamels didn't beat the Yankees.
Apparently, Phillies' pitcher Cole Hamels enjoys himself some Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. In fact, he's such a fan, that he has worked with Infinity Ward to cut a Public Service Announcement warning against Grenade Spam for the sequel. It's a cute, light hearted piece, with the pitcher talking about how throwing random grenades in hope of getting kills is "for pussies." Sure, I could rant about how Infinity Ward should find a way to deter this action besides hiring baseball players to make jokes, but whatever, it's a funny video. But, since it's Modern Warfare 2, and apparently Infinity Ward is dressing up as Rockstar Games for Halloween, there has to be some controversy.
The video is called Fight Against Grenade Spam, a message which is displayed at the end as well. Shorten it, and it's F.A.G.S.
Yeah.
If you're someone who is easily offended by words, which too much of the internet is, this might be a little bit insulting. Either way, even if you don't find the joke itself funny, the fact that they made the joke is downright hilarious. The balls on a company owned by Activision, known for practices of fear and pessimism, to make a gay joke and tie it to a pseudo-celebrity is downright funny. It's like they have enjoyed being yelled about about the PC version of MW2 so much that they've come accustomed to controversy, like some sort of Stockholm Syndrome. Yeah, I know that's not what it means, but it fits, sorta.
So, in bad tastes? Funny if not for the name? Screw the Yankees? What's your take on all of this, because I, personally, am "LOL"ing about it right now.

Funny, but it would have been much more effective if the avatar looked ANYTHING like Cole Hamels.
I too wish it looked more like Cole, but this was pretty funny anyway.
poor acronym aside, good vid. good to see cole's got a bit of a sense of humor. unlike most republicans.
I would have been fine with this in a year when Cole put up the kinds of numbers that made him World Series MVP. Now, I can't help but wonder if he missed a film session because he was too busy saying dirty words for Infinity Ward. GET BACK TO WORK HAMELS!
Awesome:)
