PopCap might have made its mark on the game industry in creating casual games such as Bejeweled, but they’ve stepped it up in the creativity department since then. Newer games like Peggle have gripped casual and hardcore alike, and with the release of Plants vs. Zombies the developer has taken an even greater leap towards bridging the gap. The quirky, silly game might have been a risk, but it appears to have paid off for them, and PopCap has announced that it is their fastest selling game to date. I think it's time to break out the brains and celebrate.
This is good news for anyone worried about the takeover of casual games. It's proof that silly little flash games aren't the next "big thing," but are more of gateway drugs, bringing in people and slowly teaching them the rules of gaming. Not everyone learned with a fist full of quarters or sweaty palms gripping NES controllers, PopCap's games are like the Rosetta Stone of gaming.

It doesn't hurt that Plants vs. Zombies is a fantastic title, and likely one of the company's best in years. Did you pick it up?
