Portal 2 to Feature Co-Op, Two Stories, A Triumph

And Tore Me to Pieces

by Coop

Thought you'd have to wait long for information on Valve's Portal 2? Think again. Gamestop, who as we all know is best friends forever with Game Informer (the magazine with the Portal 2 reveal), has updated their website with a description for the game and a placeholder release date of October 26th. Beyond what we already sort-of knew, like that the game would reunite played with GLaDOS at some point, there's also a bit more news to gnaw on. Namely, the fact that there would be both singleplayer and multiplayer, with cooperative gameplay being a focus. Two separate campaigns, too, just in case that isn't enough. Yeah. That just happened.

Here's Gamestop's quote, which has recently been taken down:

Coming this holiday. Portal 2 is the sequel to 2007's Game of the Year and draws from the award-winning formula of innovative game play, story, and music that earned the original over 70 industry accolades. Features single and multiplayer co-op modes. The single-player portion of Portal 2 introduces a cast of dynamic new characters, a host of fresh puzzle elements, and a much larger set of devious test chambers. Players will explore never-before-seen areas of the Aperture Science Labs and be reunited with GLaDOS, the occasionally murderous computer companion who guided them through the original game. The game's two-player cooperative mode features its own entirely separate campaign with a unique story, test chambers, and two new player characters. This new mode forces players to reconsider everything they thought they knew about portals. Success will require them to not just act cooperatively, but to think cooperatively.

Two new player characters? A cast of characters? Larger set of test chambers? It sounds like Portal 2 is everything anyone could have wanted. Hopefully the cooperative gameplay will end up being as fantastic as it sounds like it could be, because the only thing better than a sequel to Portal is a multiplayer sequel to Portal. If you don't agree, well, then you might want to assume the Aperture Science Jerk Bubble-Popper Submission Position, pal. That's right, we hate you. We hate you if you disagree with us.

So what does everyone think? Sound Portal-y enough?

I don't know if I believe them.... This looks shopped. I can tell from some of the pixels and from seeing quite a few shops in my time. I think I'll need more proof. They might need to send me a copy. Of the game. I could care less about Game Informer.

I just have this overwhelming sense of contentment, just knowing that this is a real thing that is happening to me. It won't be long now, friends. Won't be long now...
