Red Alert 3 was announced a few weeks ago to the collective nerdgasms of thousands of gamers. The title, which would go more into the fascinating world of “what could have been,” takes an alternative look at history and the Cold War. At this point in gaming, the plotline of Russia invading America during the 1960’s has been made cliché, but it wasn’t when it was done as a Real Time Strategy back when the first Red Alert was released.

While it doesn’t look like EA plans to innovate much on the gameplay (EA NOT INNOVATE?!) I still expect it to be a fantastic game in a series that has continually delivered excellence.

According to an article on Eurogamer, EA has said they plan on shipping beta-keys for RA3 with every copy of the new Command and Conquer 3 expansion, Kane’s Wrath. There haven’t been any details yet as to when it will start or if it will be more of a demo (like Halo 3 “beta”) or a true test of the game, but I am still excited.

While I never got into C&C3, I could see myself picking up the PC version and its expansion when it launches at on May 29. The chance to participate in the beta for what will likely be the biggest RTS of the year is too cool of a chance to pass up.

Yeah, Starcraft 2 isn't coming out in 2008.
