Ricky Gervais Laughing it up in GTA IV

The Liberty City Comedy Club Will Never be the Same

by Coop

Strolling into the Liberty City Comedy Club will introduce you to more then just a nameless NPC spouting cliché jokes. Rockstar Games has enlisted the voice and body of comedian Ricky Gervais for Grand Theft Auto IV, who has recorded several minutes of new material for the title as well as participating in motion capture for his body movements.

While it is far from being able to enjoy an endless supply of comedy, being able to see an actual comedian, playing himself, should give a reason to visit the comedy club on several occasions, if not just to show it off to friends and family. Gervais is excited for the opportunity, and detailed the experience in Shortlist magazine:

"It's a first, which always interests me," stated Gervais. "It was shot in New York, and I got to wear a tight Lycra suit as part of the digital process. That wasn't so good. Unfortunately they captured the whole horror, except I look slightly tougher… It's seriously a big deal though. Games have outsold Hollywood for the past few years so it's nice to be a small part of that."

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Ricky Gervais’s comedy, a short Youtube clip is below. I imagine there will be even more news like this in the coming weeks leading up to the launch, with Rockstar finally preparing to open the gates to Liberty City.

This is the greatest news. I hope he does a few silly dances on his virtual stage.

This is great and I will go to the comedy club to check this out. He is hysterical and will be some good comedic relief for the game. I just hope that he doesn't turn out to be a Wiseguy or something and you have to whack him. That would be sad.
