Sony Pens Rocktacular Deal
Rock Band 2, GH: World Tour, and Rock Revolution's Instruments to Work Together
by Coop

Sony has announced (via their official blog) that they have penned a deal with Harmonix, Konami, and Activision to ensure that Rock Band 2, Guitar Hero: World Tour, and Rock Revolution’s guitar and drum peripherals will all work across titles on the PlayStation 3. This is fantastic news, and means that the $399 Ion Drum Kit made for Rock Band 2 will likely work in Guitar Hero: World Tour, and Rock Revolution’s paper-maché POS kit will work with Rock Band 2. There isn’t any word yet on whether or not this will extend to the current incarnations of the musical titles, or if it will also find itself on the Xbox 360 version, but this is definitely a score for Sony if the were able to make this deal work exclusively for the PlayStation 3.
It does seem silly that it took this long for one of the console manufacturers to throw down a few dollars to get their system set up like this, and the fact that Sony did it before Microsoft is a step in the right direction for the company. Sony promises more news on this in the near future, so stay tuned.

nice move Sony, this was badly needed
This makes me wonder about the whole GH guitar not working with Rock Band on the PS3. The rumor was that Activision was blocking a patch made by EA to fix the problem but I never believed that seeing as how the GH guitar worked with the 360 version of Rock Band. My hunch was that it was always Sony that was behind the blockage of the patch to sell more software and thus recoup some of their major losses on the system.
$400 still seems like a lot for a drum kit I would let my friends use, and throw in the corner when I'm done with it.
I guess I'd need to play it to believe it.
Doesn't the GHWT have an extra pad or two on its drum kit? How will Rock band's drums compensate?
Same deal with Rock Revolution's drum kit; it's got like 50 pads!
