After speculation aplenty and months of guesstimates there is now an official price and date for the much anticipated
Rock Band.
The price: $170. That is a good thirty dollars less than we had all been guessing but I would still like to see a higher priced bundle for the 360.
The date: the last Friday in November. AKA: November 23rd. AKA: The day after Thanksgiving. AKA: Black Friday.
For many other kinds of releases Black Friday is a sure thing, but you can't say history says the same for games. Half of the copies in stock at game stores (at least) will be pre-ordered, while the other half would have sold out regardless of the day. It seems like Harmonix wants gamers to create a bull-rush on the biggest shopping day of the year. Nothing gets headlines on Black Friday like people waiting in line for one product or another...
Note to Harmonix: We were already going to buy your fucking game. Don't screw with the release date.
There will also be a Playstation 2 bundle due out on December 10th for $160. PS2 fans you are not left out of the party - they're just arriving late. It might be worth getting for the sole fact that you will not need to get trampled to get a copy as mothers smash into you on the 23rd to get their $150 camcorders and $75 laptops.
The bundle for the Playstation 3 version will be the first thing PS3 fans can wave over their 360 adversaries, as the PS3 bundle comes with a wireless guitar, wired microphone, and wired drum kit. The 360 version will have all wires, all the time.

I still wonder what the song list for this game will end up looking like. Will there be any Dethklok? Strongbad? Any new, cool, unannounced tidbits? I enjoyed my playtime with
Rock Band at PAX and hope the full game adds as much as it looks like it might.
